First Lady of Philippine Musicals gets a star on the Walk of Fame

Award-winning musical theater artist Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo was among the 20 personalities honored with a five-point brass star in the Eastwood City Walk of Fame for her contributions to the theater industry.

Lauchengco-Yulo, known as the First Lady of Philippine Musicals, was the only musical theater artist to be inducted in the 18th edition of the Eastwood City Walk of Fame on Wednesday, March 6.

She has played over 100 roles in both musicals and plays, in different theater companies, making her one of the most versatile actresses today. She has gone on to direct several musicals as well as an added feather to her cap.

At the age of 15, she made her onstage debut and has built a four-decade long legacy since then. Her performances in numerous productions including Next to Normal, Passion, Evita, Miss Saigon, Annie, King and I, Sweeney Todd, and Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical made her a true icon in Philippine theater. Now, she is part of the seasoned creative team behind the upcoming all-Filipino production Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical. She continues to play an exceptional role offstage as the Co-Artistic Director of Full House Theater Company and President of Original Pilipino Performing Arts Foundation of Newport World Resorts.

Founded by the German Moreno Walk Of Fame Foundation, the annual Eastwood City Walk of Fame highlights the excellence and contributions given by individuals for their outstanding contributions in the fields of television, movies, radio, news and public affairs, music, theater, and social media.
